Now open for nominations, the award for Best Sustainability Project will be judged by an independent panel of experienced sustainability professionals. The winner will be announced at the LRWA’s Annual Awards & Gala Dinner in Liverpool on 26 March 2025.

Aligned to key sustainability goals, the award’s criteria covers five core themes: Reduced Environmental Impact, Beneficial Social Impacts, Product and System Innovation, Carbon Management and Reduction, and Responsible Supply Chain Practices.  Liquid roofing or waterproofing projects with evidence of activities relating to these themes during the design, specification or construction phases will be applicable.

Submissions don’t have to cover every theme, especially if the project excels in one particular area, so we hope this will encourage as many members as possible to enter. To create a strong submission, examples of best practice and overcoming sustainability challenges will be key together with tangible outcomes, including quantitative data to support any claims made.

Award entries must be submitted by an LRWA member but can be developed in conjunction with supply chain partner.  To apply, all projects must have been completed between 2 December 2023 and 30 November 2024.

To guide entrants, the LRWA has provided further information on each of the five core themes, including example metrics:

  1. Reduced Environmental Impact – projects designed to minimise the environmental impact of construction activities, conserve water, reduce waste, adopt clean logistics, and where possible make positive environmental impacts such as improvements to local biodiversity.
  2. Beneficial Social Impacts – projects evidencing a positive impact on the local community such as those that create jobs (particularly in STEM fields), promote diversity and inclusion, and involve community engagement through initiatives such as education outreach or contributions to local infrastructure.
  3. Product and System Innovation – projects showcasing the use of innovative new liquid-applied membrane technologies, production processes or application techniques that directly contribute to sustainability, in particular projects comprising products and practices with the potential to be scaled up or adapted for mainstream application.
  4. Carbon Management and Reduction – projects demonstrating carbon and material efficiency, the implementation of products and processes that keep resources in use for as long as possible (circularity), the use of long-lasting liquid-applied membranes to lower the overall environmental footprint, and evidence of data-driven decisions to improve sustainability such as using EPDs.
  5. Responsible Supply Chain Practices – projects that highlight measures such as responsible sourcing, strong governance and responsible decision making, supply chain support, and the sharing of data to ensure transparency and accountability, in particular projects comprising project-specific measures which could be scalable and adaptable for mainstream use.
